Original run October 16, 2006 – February 11, 2008 Episodes 52 Kekkaishi (: 結界師, lit. 'Barrier Master') is a series written and illustrated.
It was serialized in Japan by in the from 2003 to 2011, and licensed for an English-language release in North America. It was adapted as a fifty-two episode series by, which was broadcast between October 2006 and February 2008. The series is about and, heirs to rival families of kekkai (barrier magic) users, who must defend their school from the spirits drawn to the sacred land upon which it is built.
Kekkaishi received the 2007 for manga. See also: According to the legend, five hundred years ago, there was an insignificant lord who possessed a mysterious power that drew ( 妖) (supernatural creatures) to him.
A demon exterminator, Tokimori Hazama, was called upon to protect the lord and his castle. The lord's power stayed on the land even when he had died. Thus, Tokimori founded the Hazama clan, who inherited his techniques, to protect the land for centuries to come. This land is Karasumori ( 烏森). In the present day, Yoshimori Sumimura and Tokine Yukimura, heirs of the Hazama clan, are the kekkaishi ( 結界師) that protect Karasumori (which is located on the grounds of the school they attend). They are ability users (people who can use ) who use a technique called Kekkai ( 結界). Kekkai is a form of which is primarily used to capture and destroy ayakashi that are drawn to this shin'yūchi ( 神佑地, 'sacred land').
Any ayakashi that stay on the land become stronger. Yoshimori and Tokine are to guard the land from the intrusion of ayakashi who try to 'power-up' there. Yoshimori and Tokine suffered a lot of hardships in their responsibilities to protect Karasumori.
The ayakashi they must fight are becoming more and more powerful, but they managed to protect the land with the help from Yoshimori's older brother, Masamori Sumimura, and the Urakai ( 裏会, 'Shadow Organization'). The Shadow Organization itself is an organization of ability users that is governed by a council of twelve, consisting of high level ability users. All the members are not the main inheritors of their clans lands or titles, or are loners who have no place to go, and thus have become a force that controls the course of their country. Many ayakashi try to become more powerful by using Karusumori’s power, including Kokuboro (a group of ayakashi attempting to restore their leaders power), corrupt members of Urakai’s council of twelve who either were in league with Kokuboro or trying to kill another council member.
Eventually a civil war begins between the leader and founder of Urakai, the leader (a powerful psychic who became a puppet of the founder) and the founder (another powerful psychic who alone with his power create Urakai, an army/intelligence agency at his disposal) who have become disembodied creatures who can possess others to act as their bodies to fool the other members into thinking the leadership of Urakai has changed hands. Over the course of the story it is revealed little by little that the legend is full of lies.
The real source of Karasumori's power is Chūshinmaru ( 宙心丸), an illegitimate son of the Hazama clan's founder, Tokimori Hazama, and the Karasumori clan's heiress. Tokimori used forbidden arts to try to give his son unearthly power, but the plan backfired, and instead gave Chūshinmaru the power to draw people's life force, killing everybody around him. Tokimori was forced to seal his own son beneath Karasumori. However, being alone with no aid Tokimori was unable to completely seal off the Shinkai he created. Which allowed Chūshinmaru's power to leak out, and it is this that draws ayakashi to the land. In the end, with the help of Yoshimori's mother and Tokimori, Yoshimori and Tokine find a new site for Chūshinmaru by displacing the founder of the Urakai from the domain of a land-god that the founder had taken over. To seal Chūshinmaru, Yoshimori's mother sacrifices herself by sealing the domain with herself inside.
The series end with Urakai finally becoming better for all and the two families duties are finally finished ending their personal rivalry, with Yoshimori finally feeling everything was right with the world. Production Yellow Tanabe says that she uses reference books with pictures as inspiration for designs of ayakashi. She used her own images of the appearances of kanji characters of special terms and placed the terms in a system in order to create the special powers of the Kekkaishi and the terms of magic in the series. In regards to what inspired her to create the Shadow Organization, she said 'I'm not really sure. I just sort of thought that's the way organizations are.' Media Manga. I just reviewed this on my blog. To view the full review and other reviews, click here I rated this book 4.5 stars. This is the second book in the Kekkaishi series. Sex: No Gore: No Magic: Yes (they have barrier making powers and some kind of exploding power, which I consider to be magic) Romance: (This one's kind of hard to say) So far, there isn't much romance, especially since this is still the beginning of the series and there are thirty something volumes total in this series, although you can tell that Yoshimori at least likes Tokine, not sure how she feels about him yet. Action: 4.5 stars (there is a lot of action) Pacing: 4 stars Plot: 4 stars Drawings/Art: 4 stars A few of the things that I loved about this book was the plot.
I enjoy reading books about demon fighting and magic, so it's only natural that I would end up reading this series and liking it. Plus, I like the characters too, and I liked this volume better than the first one, I usually always like the second books better than the first ones in many series, I think it's because the first book/volume are usually mostly setting up the story and introducing the major characters. Warning, Spoilers Volume 2 has chapters 8-16 in it. Chapters 8-13 are about Yomi and also about Tokine's father, chapter 8 also answers the question (a bit) of where Yoshimori's mom is, I didn't think that my questions would be solved this early in the series. (In chapters 8-13) In the beginning there is a flashback of when Tokine was a little kid and she asked her did if she could go demon hunting with him, but he said that she's too young right now. Then, Tokine and Yoshimori are in the school hallway, school is over for the day, and they're talking about humen's with unusual powers, and then Tokine starts talking about Yoshimori's mom (she's a jutsusha, I wonder what that is, maybe some kind of spell caster), then she asks him how his mother is and he says that he doesn't because she comes home sometimes, but doesn't stay long.
Then, a mysterious girl named Yomi shows up at Tokine's house saying that she was sent by the shadow organization to stay with them. Tokine's grandmother is surprised but lets her stay. Soon after, Tokine comes home and Yomi starts talking about Tokine's dad, then Tokine has a flashback of when her dad died, it looked like this incident changed her a lot and for the better. That night, Yoshimori and Tokine are at the school looking for demons (as usual), Tokine's acting strange, and Yoshimori tries to make her feeel better when they both sense a demon, but when they go look for it they find Yomi instead, (coincidence? She suggests that they have tea and is prepared with cups and everything (who has tea outside at night? Then again, this is a manga and I've see and read about weirder things before). The next night, Yoshimori shows up before Tokine does, and Yomi there's too, they have tea again and this time she brought some japanese sweets.
Yoshimori asks Yomi if she could stop talking about Tokine's father (wow, Yoshimuri and Tokine are close, since he could tell right away that something was bothering her), after that he tries one of Yomi's sweets and passes out. Then Tokine comes, Yoshimori's not there anymore and we find out that Yomi is actually a demon tamer and that she and her demon Yoki are going to conquer Karasumori. Tokine finds out what happened to Yoshimori and she's worryed and keeps asking where he is, then Yomi says that she actually hated Tokine's father and just when Tokine's about to be squashed, Yoshimori comes flying out of nowhere and saves Tokine. Tokine doesn't have much energy left to fight, and she has a plan, so she tells Yoshimori what her plan is and that's what they do.
Yomi remembers when she and Yoki were little and how people always made fun of them, saying that they were slow and weak, which is why she wants him to become stronger so badly. Yoki keeps on getting stronger and to Yomi's suprise, he says that he doesn't need her anymore. Yoshimori tells Yomi that he has to deal with Yoki, but he won't kill him.
Yoshimori and Yoki are fighting. And then two men from the night troops from the shadow organization (they came to arrest Yomi), Yoshimori's grandpa, and Tokine's grandma show up.The two mysterious men start attacking Yoki (poor Yomi, she loves Yoki so much).
Yoshimori is a really sweet person, even though he's willing to kill demons and it's his job, he knows that some deserve to live even though they're a bad. He saves a piece of Yoki and gives it Yomi, Yoki restored himself but now he's so tiny (I'm not exactly sure if that's what happened or something else did) and Yomi is very happy.
In chapters 15 and 16, at the Karasumori school, there are cherry blossoms blooming even though it's almost winter, which is unusual. We are introduced to a new character who's name is Yurina Kanda and she can see ghosts, although she can't tell the difference between ghosts and the living. She sees a ghost outside and then she sees Yoshimuri talking to that ghost and she starts thinking about how strange it is. She overhears him talking to that ghost again and saying that he will terminate her and had a creepy look on his face. Yurina starts wondering what he is and if he's even human.
She shows up at night at the school because she and her friends made plans to, and she won't go away, so now they have to protect her while they're fighting demons. Tokine and Yoshimori didn't know that she could see ghosts until after the battle and she finds out that those two aren't actually bad people. The next day, the cherry blossoms are completely gone. Those are the major incidents of this volume, of course more happened, but I don't want to bore you with all of the details. Overall, I like this manga, it's not one of my most favourites yet because it's still to early to tell, but you never know, although as I said before, I like this volume better than the first one, the story's developing and getting more interesting.
I'm getting really curious about the area Karasumori. This ended up being a longer review than I thought, sorry about that. Like most early volumes in a series, volume 2 of Kekkaishi is a lot of background material. While background volumes often drag, this volume had enough plot and action that you hardly noticed the substantial amount of background information.

Turns out that Yomi is a demon tamer. The real reason she's here is to take her demon Yoki to Karasumori, where Yoki can grow into a powerful and dangerous demon.
Yomi is willing to do anything to help Yoki the demon gain power, including killing Tokine and Yoshimori when they get in her way. Yomi particularly likes to taunt Tokine about her dead father, accusing him of being weak. What I liked about this volume is that there's an undercurrent of love in many of the characters. Yomi truly loves her demon Yoki. They've been friends for years. Even Yoki the demon has some affection for Yomi.
It shows that demons are not simply devilish creatures. I doubt they'll be the heroes of this series, but the series isn't simply black and white. Yoshimori is a kindhearted boy. Brave and willing to kill, but not without thought. He recognizes that some demons or demon tamer may not be worthy of death even if they're bad. In contrast, when the shadow organization shows up to help destroy the demon, they're cold-hearted killers. So the good guys may not be entirely good.
I still can't say that I'm in love with Kekkaishi. But I do like the thought that's gone into this series and the layered characters. I liked this one better than the first one. It was about a mysterious girl appears claiming to know Tokine's father, who we find out in this volume, died while trying to protect his family from the demons even though he wasn't a Kekkaishi. She turns out to be a demon tamer and her servant who come to the Karasumori site (the site of the school that the Kekkaishi protect at night as that is when the demon appear) to allow her demon to grow in strength and ability.

I am enjoying the behind the scenes comics at the end of each volume which explains more about the creator and how each volume is shaped. Yellow Tanabe is featured as a little angry penguin with a big Y on her chest. I also enjoy her message to her readers following the creation comic section.
